St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish serving the people of Sallisaw, the county seat of Sequoyah County in eastern Oklahoma. Our church stands on a hill overlooking the meeting place of the Ozark foothills and the Arkansas River Valley, within the Fort Smith, Arkansas metropolitan area.
Our pastor, Father Jeff Polasek, shepherds our parish along with three neighboring Catholic communities:
St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Roland,
St. Joseph in Webbers Falls, and
St. John the Evangelist in Cookson.
We belong to the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma, whose cathedral is Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa, under the pastoral leadership of Bishop David A. Konderla. As a parish of the Diocese, we participate fully in the mission and guidance of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church is a parish in full communion with the Holy See in Vatican City, under the spiritual care of the Bishop of Rome, Pope Leo XIV.
We warmly welcome all who seek a place to pray, to grow in faith, and to encounter the living Christ. We invite every Catholic—whether new to the area, returning to the Church, or visiting—to join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith.
