A beginning in faith, at any age
Baptism is the beginning of life in Christ. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we are freed from sin, born into new life, and welcomed into the Church.
Whether you are seeking Baptism for your child, considering it as an adult, or simply wondering where to begin, you are welcome at St. Francis Xavier.
Begin with a conversation
To inquire about Baptism, please call the parish office. We will arrange a meeting with Father Jeff to discuss your circumstances, answer your questions, and explain the preparation and next steps.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you call. A conversation is a good place to start.

Baptism is for adults, too
Many people picture a baby at the baptismal font, surrounded by family. That is a beautiful part of the Church’s life, but adults have also been welcomed through Baptism since the earliest days of Christianity.
If you have never been baptized, you are not too old, and you have not missed your opportunity. You may be discovering faith for the first time, returning to questions you set aside years ago, or feeling drawn toward the Catholic Church.
It is natural to feel nervous. You do not have to know all the prayers, understand every teaching, or know exactly what to ask. We will help you take the next step.
Adults ordinarily prepare through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, often called OCIA. This is a time to learn about the Catholic faith, grow in prayer, ask questions, and become part of parish life. Father Jeff will help explain the path appropriate to your circumstances.
Baptism for infants and children
In bringing a child for Baptism, parents begin a lifelong journey of helping that child know and love God. The parish is here to support you in that responsibility.
Contact the office to arrange a meeting with Father Jeff. He will explain preparation, the role of parents and godparents, and arrangements for the celebration.
If your child is older and has not yet been baptized, please reach out. Preparation can be arranged according to the child’s age and circumstances.
Not sure whether you were baptized?
You are welcome to contact us even if your family history is unclear or you cannot find a baptismal certificate.
We can help you explore what is known, identify where a record might be kept, and discuss the next steps with Father Jeff. Bring whatever information you have, even if it is only a possible church name, location, or approximate date.
Baptism is received only once when validly celebrated. If uncertainty remains, Father Jeff can explain how the Church carefully addresses that situation. You do not need to resolve it on your own.
Already baptized in another Christian church?
Please let us know. The Catholic Church recognizes many baptisms celebrated in other Christian communities, and a valid Baptism is not repeated.
Father Jeff can help review your baptismal history and explain preparation for entering into full communion with the Catholic Church.
A life that continues to grow
Baptism is a beginning, not a finish line. Faith grows through prayer, worship, learning, service, and the support of a community.
Whatever brings you to this page, we would be glad to talk with you. Let us help you begin.
